The visit will also strengthen bilateral collaboration, especially within the framework of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which has generated transformative infrastructure and socioeconomic development throughout Cambodia.

Xi Jinping’s visit is expected to further consolidate the historic ties of friendship cultivated by successive leaders of both countries, the source predicted.

During his stay in the country, the Chinese president will meet with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Senate President Hun Sen to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. Several agreements aimed at boosting collaboration in key sectors are expected to be signed as a result of the visit.

Ahead of Xi Jinping’s trip, a joint media delegation from the Khmer Times and People’s Daily of China conducted a four-day tour from April 4th to 7th to assess the impact of China-backed development projects in Cambodia. The journalists visited the provinces of Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk, Siem Reap, Kratie, and Stung Treng to explore China’s contributions in infrastructure, energy, healthcare, transportation, industry, education, cultural preservation, and people-to-people exchanges.
