“I call on all the men and women of the capital to make the great ‘lectódromo’, the largest in the world, in the Zócalo. Let’s fill it with books and read together,” Clara Brugada, head of the city’s government, said.
The official called on families to attend the event scheduled for 11:00 local time in the emblematic square.
“Let’s bring the children, the youth, the adults, and let’s make the Zócalo the great reading area, as a sign that in this city we vindicate books as a form of cultural expression that must be promoted and turned into a right for citizens,” she said.
Brugada announced the initiative last Wednesday, during the inauguration of the 19th Great Auction of Books, Records and Films, held until yesterday on the esplanade of the Monument to the Revolution with the presence of more than 200 publishing houses.
