According to spokesman Guo Jiakun, these measures are a response to the sanctions imposed by the United States against six Chinese officials in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The spokesman described these actions as unilateral and illegal, while denouncing Washington’s interference in China’s internal affairs.
According to Guo, these Washington sanctions violate fundamental principles of international law and the basic norms of global relations.
“We warn the United States that Hong Kong is part of China and that Hong Kong affairs will not tolerate external interference.
Any wrong actions by the United States on this issue will be met with a firm response and will face equivalent countermeasures from China, Guo said.
Beijing recently condemned a U.S. State Department report that the Foreign Ministry said was “full of falsehoods and groundless theories that attack Hong Kong’s ‘one country, two systems’ policy, the National Security Law, and slander the state of democracy, the rule of law, freedom, and human rights in the region.”
