Cuba warns of the harms of climate change

Havana, April 22 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reiterated that policies and practices must be modified to protect the world from the damage caused by climate change.

“On International Mother Earth Day, we reiterate our alert to the inexorable advance of Climate Change, which threatens the existence of life and biodiversity on our planet,” Rodríguez commented on the social network X.

He also urged a significant “change” to “the unsustainable patterns of production and consumption of capitalism.” Every April 22, International Mother Earth Day, also known as Earth Day, is celebrated in most nations.

Its objective is to raise awareness about overpopulation, pollution, biodiversity conservation, global warming, and other environmental problems in order to protect the Earth.

According to scientific studies, the planet loses 10 million hectares of forests each year, and around one million animal and plant species are at risk of extinction.

These are just two examples of the damage caused by climate change, which damages all ecosystems and the connections between them and, therefore, weakens the natural protection of humans, because species diversity makes it difficult for pathogens to spread. This Tuesday marks the 55th annual Earth Day under the slogan “Our Power, Our Planet.”
