Since its first call in 2018, the meeting has brought together the energy planning and modeling community on the continent to share experiences, models, and data in the climate, land, energy, and water systems.
According to ECA, the event aims to support human and institutional capacity in Africa for integrated energy modeling and investment planning and the development of centers of excellence for that purpose.
It also promotes efficient and widespread use of open source modeling tools to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement, and the Africa 2063 Agenda.
The latter is part of the secure, adequate, and reliable access to modern forms and services of energy for livelihoods and industrialization, considered critical to achieving a sustainable and inclusive transformation of the African continent.
