The sanctions stem from the investigation ordered by Lazo into the direct purchase of two OPV military patrol vessels from the Spanish shipyard Cardama for more than $80 million.
The operation responded to an order from then-Minister Javier García, of the previous administration of President Luis Lacalle Pou.
According to Montevideo Portal, the new Defense authorities ordered the formation of a group to “clarify the purchasing procedure”.
They allege that the file contained issues “that were not clear and were missing.”
According to the source, some information provided to the group was later proven to be false.
In other cases, the delivery of data was delayed. Disciplinary offenses were subsequently imposed “with immediate arrest.”
