Dieguez also met with Kon Vatskalis, Mayor of Darwin, and paid a courtesy visit to Brian O’Gallagher, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
The Cuban diplomat also spoke with Suzy Wilson-Uilelea, director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) at Northern Territory; Kelly Ralston, Executive Director of Trade, Investment, and Opportunities; and Jed Matz, deputy executive director of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
According to Prensa Latina, in her conversations with the authorities of that northern Australian territory, the head of the Cuban state mission ratified her country’s willingness to cooperate in areas such as health and education, particularly with the aboriginal population, and based on the experience both parties already have.
The Cuban literacy method “Yo, Si Puedo” (Yes, I Can) was implemented since 2012, for over a decade, in 13 aboriginal communities in New South Wales, Queensland, and Northern Territory. As a result, more than 300 students have graduated.
