Over 10,000 Gazans disappeared since the start of Israel’s attacks

Ramallah, Apr 23 (Prensa Latina) Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal reported that more than 10,000 Palestinians remain missing under the rubble of destroyed buildings since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October 2023.

The official warned that the rise in temperatures caused by the arrival of summer contributes to the spread of diseases among the hundreds of thousands of displaced people.

Mohammed Al-Mughair, Director of Civil Defense Supply in the Strip, accused the Israeli army of systematically destroying the work capacities of humanitarian institutions operating in the coastal enclave.

In recent days, criticism and denunciations of Israel have increased from various UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, and governments over the blockade imposed on Gaza, which prevents the entry of vital products such as food, medicine, and fuel.

The Gaza Government Press Office warned this week that the humanitarian situation has entered a phase of total collapse as a result of the attacks and the blockade. “The complete, continuous, and deliberate denial of humanitarian aid for more than a month and a half has significantly exacerbated the crisis,” it stressed, highlighting in particular the plight of more than 1.1 million children suffering from malnutrition, amid severe food and water shortages, the near-collapse of the healthcare system, and deprivation of basic necessities of life. It also warned that more than two million Palestinians are threatened by a lack of food.

Days ago, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Strip, Adrian Zimmerman, described the territory’s living conditions as “hell on earth.” Medical supplies could run out within a few weeks as a result of the border closures, the official said in a statement to the Qatari television station Al Jazeera.

Regarding the issue, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned of the serious deterioration of the situation, which is reflected in the increase in the number of children receiving treatment for malnutrition.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) condemned the closure of border crossings and estimated that 420,000 Palestinians have been displaced again in the Gaza Strip since the resumption of Israeli attacks on March 18.
