Ecuador’s National Electoral Council (CNE) to close election count

Quito, Apr 24 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador's National Electoral Council (CNE) will meet and could close the presidential runoff vote count following complaints from the Citizen Revolution-Total Renewal (RC-RETO) alliance regarding irregularities detected.

For the official election’s result to be announced, the body must respond to the political movements’ request to review more than 1,800 tally sheets from different provinces.

Experts in electoral processes assure that while elections sometimes produce surprises, the results of the April 13th elections reflect anomalies that warrant an investigation.

The RC announced that a multidisciplinary team of national and international experts raised the possibility of physical fraud in the vote.

The technical-argumentative report, grounded in statistical evidence, logistical analysis, and material observations, proposes a hypothesis of vote manipulation through the alleged transfer of ink, a mechanism referred to as INKSWAP. According to the authors, this method would have favored Noboa by involuntary mark transfers when folding the ballot, altering votes originally cast in favor of Noboa’s opponent..

Finally, the report requests a forensic technical audit of the electoral materials and calls for an independent national or international investigation to determine whether INKSWAP was part of a systematic operation that altered the election’s outcome.
