No negotiations with the US are underway, China says

Beijing, Apr 24 (Prensa Latina) Contrary to numerous US reports, China stressed that there are no ongoing negotiations with the United States to resolve the current tariff war.

The Ministries of Commerce and Foreign Affairs emphasized that talks are not underway, much less any agreements reached. “Any information about progress in trade negotiations between China and the United States is groundless,” added the spokesmen for both ministries, emphasizing that speculation on this issue is unfounded and does not reflect the current reality of bilateral relations.

Regarding the tariff war initiated by the United States, both officials reiterated China’s official position.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun emphasized that China’s attitude has been consistent: “If they want to fight, we are prepared; if they want to talk, our doors are open.” He clarified that any dialogue must be based on equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.

In response to reports that Washington could reduce its tariffs on Chinese products, Guo Jiakun responded: “If the United States truly wants to resolve the issue through dialogue, it should abandon extreme pressure tactics and stop using threats.” He also noted that Washington initiated this trade dispute, and that the solution depends on the withdrawal of unilateral tariff measures.

Ministry of Commerce spokesman He Yadong emphasized that China has always been open to dialogue but rejected any attempt to impose unilateral conditions or exert maximum pressure as a negotiating tactic. He added that the tariff measures imposed by the United States have drawn strong criticism internationally and within the United States.
