At the Vatican, Iwaya will attend Pope Francis’ funeral on Saturday, representing Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who highlighted His Holiness’ inclination for peaceful diplomacy to achieve world peace, among other ideals in favor of humanity’s welfare.
According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry’s program, Iwaya will deliver a speech at the Third session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, to be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York from April 28 to May 9, 2025.
His stay in the United States includes a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The Japanese foreign minister plans to talk with senior leaders of the governments of Senegal, Saudi Arabia, and France.
