This determination was expressed during a meeting between Cuong and the Secretary General of the People’s Revolutionary Party (PPRL) and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, during which they discussed measures to deepen and strengthen comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.
Both leaders also agreed on the need to seek innovative approaches to improve the effectiveness of cooperation in the economic, cultural, scientific, and technological fields, and to leverage the strengths and potential of each nation.
Cuong and Sisoulith also committed to implementing effective measures to increase bilateral trade to $5 billion in the coming years and agreed to intensify the exchange of experiences in macroeconomic management.
During their talks on Thursday, the leaders expressed their satisfaction with the unblocking and launch of several important projects, boosting bilateral collaboration.
Cuong announced the donation of a hospital to the capital city, a project valued at three million dollars.
At the end of the official talks, the dignitaries witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between the Ministries of Defense and Justice, and between the authorities of the Vietnamese province of Gia Lai and the Laotian province of Attapeu.Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic relations 63 years ago.
Their trade reached $2.25 billion in 2024, an increase of 38.2 percent over the previous year.
There are currently 267 Vietnamese investment projects in Laos, with a registered capital of $5.7 billion, mainly in the telecommunications, banking, rubber processing, and food and dairy production sectors.
