Meloni reaffirmed to Modi her condemnation of India’s terror attack

Rome, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reaffirmed via telephone to her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, her condemnation of the recent terror attack in that country and her condolences for the 26 victims, a statement said on Friday.

A release published on the official website of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers indicates that during the telephone exchange held on Thursday, the two leaders talked about the complex situation following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, in the Kashmir region.

Just few hours after those events, Meloni issued a message in which she said that, “I am deeply saddened by today’s terrorist attack in India, which has caused many victims” and stated that, “Italy expresses its closeness to the families affected, the wounded, the Government, and all the Indian people.”

In the document, she reiterated to Modi on Thursday Rome’s commitment to fighting international terrorism and both agreed to strengthen bilateral dialogue and joint action in this area.

The Indian security forces are investigating to identify those responsible for this terrorist action, claimed by the so-called Resistance Front (FRT), a group associated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), banned by Islamabad.

Pakistan cut off trade relations with India on April 24, closed its airspace for airlines from the neighboring country, and warned of the dangers of further deterioration of ties between the two nations.
