According to the Jamaica Information Service, the nation has achieved international recognition for its efforts in peacefully regulating ionizing radiation.
The ARSP, responsible for enforcing the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act, has transformed the national infrastructure and now plays a key role in building regulatory capacity throughout the region.
We are proud to say that Jamaica has the most advanced independent regulatory body for radiation safety in the Caribbean,’ said ARSP Director General Cliff Riley, who added that they
have paved the way for other nations that are now following our lead, and we have been instrumental in helping them get started.
In fact,“ Riley exemplified, ”a team of our inspectors helped St. Lucia get up and running its independent regulatory body for radiation safety by December 2024.
Riley emphasized, ”Our responsibility is to ensure that all systems in use throughout the country are safe for operators, patients, the general public, as well as future generations.
