The Rural Federation (FR), which groups rural producers, stated that this is a structural problem that worsens with time and the lack of effective responses.
“The poor condition of secondary roads directly affects the output of production and the quality of life in rural areas,” Jorge Andrés Rodríguez, president of the FR, said.
He told Diario La R, with digital edition, that the imminent soybean and corn harvest puts additional pressure on the road infrastructure in several departments of the country.
Rodríguez said that although the central government transfers approximately 70 percent of the funds earmarked for roads to the municipalities, “many departmental governments do not use this money for its intended purpose”.
He pointed out that even the resources destined for emergency after the floods of March 2024 “were not used for works” in some areas.
The union leader regretted the lack of dialogue with several departmental governments and with the Congress of Mayors. “We asked for a hearing and we did not get an answer”.
The FR also criticizes the management of road crews and machinery, such as the low operability and the hiring of untrained personnel.
