Syria and Iraq agree to strengthen cooperation

Damascus, April 26 (Prensa Latina) Syrian transitional president Ahmad Al-Shara and the head of the Iraqi Intelligence Service, Hamid Al-Shatri, expressed their willingness to enhance cooperation in multiple areas of common interest.

In a meeting held at the People’s Presidential Palace in Damascus, the Syrian capital, the two sides affirmed their desire to make every effort to achieve security and stability in Syria and the entire region.

They advocated promoting investment, concluding trade agreements in the oil and grain sectors, and forming joint committees to monitor the implementation of the agreements.

They also created a working mechanism to operate the Tanf-Walid border crossing between the two countries.

Al-Shatri delivered a message from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to the Syrian president, including an invitation to attend the Arab Summit in Baghdad on May 17.

In another context, the first shipment of wheat provided by the Iraqi government arrived in Syria through the Albukamal border crossing.

The director general of the Grain Company, Hassan Othman, stated that the Iraqi donation consists of 220,000 tons of wheat.
