The Foreign Ministry clarified that during a hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) yesterday, the Egyptian delegation stated that Israel’s actions in Gaza, including the blockade, forced displacement, and obstruction of aid, constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law.
These measures are intended to impose a fait accompli and facilitate the de facto annexation of Palestinian land, the delegation noted, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement, delivered by the delegation, is part of the proceedings seeking an advisory opinion from that court on the legal consequences of the prolonged occupation of Palestinian territories, the text added.
Egypt also criticized comments by numerous Israeli government officials and lawmakers on the need to reoccupy Gaza and expel Palestinians.
In particular, it denounced Israel’s efforts to undermine the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (Unrwa).
