According to the local Foreign Ministry, during the talks with Vieira in Rio de Janeiro, Timothewos praised Brasilia’s effective presidency of the economic bloc for 2025, assuring Addis Ababa’s support to priority areas.
The parties addressed cooperation in food security, agricultural productivity, reform of global governance institutions, energy transition, and forestry programs.
Vieira, in turn, presented Brazil’s initiatives since the G20 presidency in 2024 and thanked Ethiopia for its support, especially as a member of the Board of Champions of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
In the meeting with Lavrov, the head of Ethiopian diplomacy welcomed the strengthening of bilateral relations and emphasized the need for even closer ties.
Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to deepening historical ties through concrete collaboration in bilateral and multilateral forums.
The First BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting 2025 opened on Monday with a session on the theme “The Role of BRICS in Addressing Global and Regional Crises and Advancing Pathways to Peace and Security.”
