Quoc Vuong, who was sentenced by the Hanoi People’s Court, was involved in a case related to the Thuan Nam solar energy project, in which – according to the Prosecutor’s Office – serious irregularities were committed that damaged the operation of state agencies.
The defendant deliberately ordered the drafting team to formulate a Government Decision in a way that extended the eligibility for the preferential electricity price, which illegally benefited three enterprises and caused losses of more than US$42 million to the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN).
In addition to the former deputy minister, 10 other people involved in the case received prison sentences ranging from three to six years.
The Hanoi court also ruled that the entities that benefited from these criminal acts will have to compensate the NVA. In this case, Licogi 16 Ninh Thuan Renewable Energy must pay nearly US$4 million.
Meanwhile, the company Thuan Nam Solar Power will have to reimburse the NVA more than 37 million U.S. currency and the company Loc Ninh 3 Energy more than eight million U.S. currency.
