India and Pakistan exchange fire again across the border

New Delhi, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) The Indian Army responded early Tuesday morning to renewed fire from the Pakistani side of the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, with no casualties reported so far, radio station Newsonair reported.

Defense sources reported that Pakistani positions opened unprovoked fire in border areas opposite the districts of Kupwara and Baramulla, as well as in the Akhnoor sector of the territory under Indian jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, intense counterterrorism operations continue in Jammu and Kashmir, details of which are unknown for security reasons, the news agency ANI reported.

On Monday, it was reported that police in Srinagar, the territory’s capital, conducted extensive searches of the homes of individuals associated with proscribed organizations as part of an investigation into cases registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

According to press reports, the departure of Pakistanis from India through the Attari border increased significantly on Tuesday, coinciding with the last day of validity of medical visas issued to these citizens in accordance with the Indian government’s decisions following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Arun Pal, protocol officer at the Attari border, stated that as of Sunday, 537 Pakistani nationals had left India through this route in the past three days. He also indicated that 850 Indian nationals had returned to India in the same period.

Following the terrorist attack in Kashmir, India announced a series of measures against Pakistan, including the unilateral suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, the closure of the border crossing between the two countries, the expulsion of diplomats, and an order for Pakistanis to leave the country.

Pakistan, which strongly denies any link to the attack, responded by immediately suspending all visas issued to Indian citizens under a visa waiver program, in addition to expelling some Indian diplomats and closing its airspace to flights from India.
