“The victims of sexual crimes in our country clearly have the face of children and adolescents,” he said during the presentation of the annual management report of the Integral System for the Protection of Children and Adolescents against Violence.
He informed that during 2024 the MI received 3,287 police reports for sexual crimes for an average of nine per day.
Gutiérrez explained that these reports involve around 3,800 victims, of which 80% are women and 20% are men. He remarked that the National Police is concerned and alarmed by the “exponential growth” of sexual violence against children and adolescents.
A data that “has a strong impact” is that of the total number of victims identified in 2024, “seven out of 10 are children and adolescents”.
He also warned about the challenge posed by violence in digital environments, with an increase in reports of “computer contact with sexual content”, with adolescents as the main victims.
