Cuban president praises Vietnam’s historic achievements

Havana, April 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel described the Great Victory of 1975, which liberated South Vietnam and reunited the nation, as an everlasting symbol of the heroism and dignity of the people.

The president, at the 10th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and the reunification of the sister country, emphasized that “with the brave people of Vietnam, its Party, State, and Government, Cuba celebrates as its own the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of our sister country.”

The day before, the Caribbean nation commemorated the historic date in a solemn ceremony attended by the head of State and senior representatives of the Cuban government and Communist Party.

The Vietnamese ambassador in Havana, Le Quang Long, noted that half a century ago, the Great Victory in the spring of 1975 ended the prolonged resistance, opening a new era of independence and reunification for the Indochinese nation.

He recalled that “in the most difficult periods of resistance, Cuba has always been at the forefront of the international movement in support of Vietnam.

The Caribbean island “was the first country in the world to recognize the South Vietnam Liberation Front,” he recalled. “The solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, fostered by leaders Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh, forged in the fire of war and difficult years, has become an invaluable treasure for our two peoples,” Le Quang Long noted.
