Lula da Silva wrote on the social media platform X that he met with leaders of the country’s main unions during May 1st week, Workers’ Day. “I received the document Working Class Agenda: Priorities for 2025. For a more just, supportive, democratic, sovereign, and sustainable Brazil, within the framework of the mobilization and the Working Class March in Brasilia,” he wrote, adding that his government “has roots in this struggle and will always have its doors open to dialogue with those who turns the wheels of the economy.”
According to the official website of the ruling Workers’ Party (PT), the document submitted by the unions lists several popular and necessary demands, with an emphasis on the end of the 6×1 workday, a long-standing demand for better working conditions and quality of life for Brazilians.
The agenda also addresses issues such as reducing the workday without reducing wages, promoting collective bargaining, combating precarious work, and expanding policies to generate decent employment.
