Students of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua) highlighted the validity of the thought of the writer and poet.
The student Asdrenia Astacio said that Borge, together with the other members of the FSLN, made it possible that today university students in Nicaragua have the privilege of being in a free university that forms them as quality professionals.
From the Revolution Square in this capital where Borge’s mortal remains rest, members of the Sandinista Youth July 19 paid tribute to his memory with a poetry recital.
We have known Commander Tomas through his works, his words, his verses and poems that inspire us as youth to continue fighting day by day, committing ourselves to this cause, to continue accompanying Daniel (Ortega) and Rosario (Murillo) in this fight against poverty, said Pedro Pablo Castillo, member of the cultural department of the Mayor’s Office of Managua.
Nicaraguans describe Borge as a loyal, faithful and sincere guerrilla fighter to the revolutionary principles since the 1950s until his last breath on April 30, 2012.
From a very young age he was involved in revolutionary activities and at only 16 years old he edited the newspaper ‘Espartako’ participating in the communication struggle against the regime of Anastasio Somoza Garcia.
Tortured several times by the Somoza dictatorship, his greatest desire was to see a free and sovereign Nicaragua without interventionists who wanted to take over the peace of the Central American nation.
