Nun considered the oldest woman in the world dies at 116 years old

Brasilia, May 1 (Prensa Latina) The oldest person in the world, the Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas, died at the age of 116, as confirmed by the Congregation of the Teresian Sisters, with whom she lived in Porto Alegre, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Canabarro Lucas was recognized as the doyenne of humanity following the death in January of Japan’s Tomiko Itooka, also dead at 116, according to the Gerontology Research Group of the United States and LongeviQuest, an organization with more than 110 years of research in the area of longevity.

Local soccer club Internacional(Inter), of which the Brazilian was a fan, mourned her loss.

A note from the sports society expressed: “It is with great sadness that Internacional received the news of the passing of Mother Inah Canabarro. The colored fan, who left us this Wednesday, was the longest living woman in the world who dedicated her 116 years of life to kindness, faith and love for the People’s Club”.

Historians assure that Canabarro Lucas was born in Sao Francisco de Assis, officially, on June 8, 1908. However, she guaranteed that the correct date was earlier: May 27.
