Costa Rican authorities concerned about shootings between rivals

San José, May 2 (Prensa Latina) Shootings in Costa Rica between rival groups or individuals, especially those linked to the growing drug trafficking, are today a police and judicial authorities concern in the country, the Teletica.com channel published.

The public force and the Attorney General’s Office agree on the proliferation of these shootings between individuals, encouraged by quarrel settlings or associated with drug trafficking, the digital version of the television station added.

Rándall Zúñiga, general director of the Judicial Investigation Organism (OIJ) said: “Many of these people, when they are besieged by a rival group or even by the police, try to repel the attack,” .

The experienced officer cited as an example “an individual that we were going to arrest inside a room, and, when we gave the “police” alert and went to enter the place, he fired two shots and we repelled the attack of this subject”.

A more recent case -reported by Zuñiga- was last March 26, “when a driver of digital platforms opened fire and killed a man who was trying to kill him”.

The example, according to Zúñiga, illustrates frequent episodes of exchanges of bullets, in which the target of an attempted murder responds to the attacker.
