“My respect to his legacy and a big hug to the family of don Pedro Hidalgo, a man committed to a more just society who paid with jail and exile the dignity of his convictions,” wrote Boric in his X account.
The former minister died Sunday in Talca, in the Maule Region, at the age of 89.
Hidalgo was an agronomist engineer from the Austral University and played a key role in the agrarian reform, recalled the Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela.
He also held other important positions as Director of Planning of the Agrarian Reform, to which he was strongly committed, and vice-president of the Institute of Agricultural Development.
The Salvador Allende Foundation recalled that Hidalgo dedicated his life to public service and the development of the country.
