Cuba to continue helping young Haitians to build their future

Port-au-Prince, May 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuba maintains today its commitment to the Haitian youth, and it is the time for seven students to realize their dreams of becoming professionals in the Caribbean nation.

Midrège Zeïde, Hans Dimitri, Bill Marc Herriott, Loovens Gendoff, Stéphane Kelly, Darline Lamartiniere, Dialina José now have in their hands the will to change their destiny forever.

They qualified for the scholarship program offered by the Cuban government for the academic year 2025-2026.

Haiti Libre digital newsper noted that the open competition was held at the premises of the Haitian Foreign Affairs and Worship Ministry in this capital.

These seven young people are facing the example of the academic prowess of Jonas Jean, a poor Haitian who recently graduated this year from the University of Medical Sciences in Santiago de Cuba.

The young man, born in Cité Soleil, one of Port-au-Prince’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods, embodies perseverance and determination, as he walked a path marked by challenges and sacrifices.

Jean is a true source of inspiration for all those who believe in the power of education and perseverance.

Jonas Jean was one of the 299 graduates of the School of Medicine and the number one graduate of the University of Medical Sciences in Santiago de Cuba, which this year has a total of 598 new doctors.

Jean was one of the 10 Haitians who studied this career in the Caribbean island.

The Rectorate of the Santiago de Cuba University of Medical Sciences awarded the Haitian physician ‘the Scientific Merit Award, the University Faculty Award and the highest distinction: the Most Complete Student of the University and Faculty Award’.

“I never had the idea of being the best student, but I always had the goal of being successful,” the Haitian doctor said.

Jean published several papers, including a study on the prescription of methyldopa in hypertensive diseases during pregnancy.
