Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei condemned the drone attack that targeted the airport and civilian facilities in Port Sudan, Tasnim news agency reported Monday.
Baghaei also expressed his concern over the continuation of military strikes on civilian and municipal facilities in Sudan, such as power plants, hospitals, and water treatment plants in the African country.
The Sudanese army confirmed on Sunday that the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF) conducted their first attack on Port Sudan, marking a turning point in the armed conflict that has been raging in the country since 2023.
The spokesperson noted that the RSF attacked the Osman Digna airbase, a goods warehouse, and several civilian facilities located around the coastal city’s airport.
This incident occurred in a context of escalating conflict, with recent attacks by the RSF in the Nile, North Kordofan, and West Kordofan states.
