The diplomatic mission stated that Campos’ words are a threat and an attack on Dominican-Chinese relations, while violating the basic norms of diplomatic procedure.
They also represent a flagrant interference in the diplomatic sovereignty of the Dominican Republic, the Embassy of China told Diario Libre.
Last May 1, Campos, nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as ambassador to Santo Domingo, warned that “I will work tirelessly to prevent the influence of the Chinese Communist Party in the Dominican Republic and throughout our hemisphere”.
This was stated before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where she also said that among her priorities are the need to improve border security, fight illegal immigration and continue the joint struggle against drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
