It is an economic suicide to reach the point of having no gas, oil, or nuclear fuel, nothing from Russia just because a new iron curtain is being drawn between the Western world and Russia, Fico said at a press briefing this Wednesday, commenting on the European Commission (EC)’s roadmap for phasing out Russian energy resources.
The prime minister called the EU’s willingness to halt Russian energy resources “a dangerous game,” and added that Slovakia would work to draw the EC’s attention to the risks associated with this decision.
Fico had earlier said that by insisting on cutting off energy supplies from the east, EU bodies were, for political reasons, creating the conditions for a further increase in gas prices.
Russia claimed more than once that the West made a serious mistake in refusing to buy Russian hydrocarbons, as it will lead to a new, stronger dependence, caused by rising prices.
