The government postponed negotiations with Washington after Thai officials informed Paetongtarn that Thailand would be asked to review a number of specific issues before reaching an agreement.
As a result, Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira canceled his team’s trip to Washington scheduled for April 23.
Paetongtarn affirmed that the government has enough time to reach an agreement with the US and expressed confidence that the details can be fine-tuned before the deadline set by President Trump.
The 36% levy on Thai goods, initially scheduled for April 9, has been the subject of extensive negotiations.
The Prime Minister also dismissed speculation about a possible “secret deal” with the US that could be used to later undermine the government.
