In statements to the Cuban presidential press, after the meeting in Moscow between the presidents of Cuba and Russia, Miguel Diaz-Canel and Vladimir Putin, respectively, the vice president sent a message of recognition to the people of the Caribbean nation.

Chernyshenko explained that the boom in Havana-Moscow ties is the result of hard, permanent work by both sides over the past eight years.

“Cuba is a reliable partner and has the capacity to pay for state credits and projects contracted in recent years,” he said, highlighting the recent signing of a paper called Plan 2030.

Under that program, Russian companies and businessmen have expressed their willingness and confirmed their commitment to invest more than one billion dollars in Cuba’s economy, he emphasized.

In this regard, he reported that in the meeting between Diaz-Canel and Putin, the Russian president confirmed that they will use a special mechanism to subsidize interest rates to the Russian businessmen for the financing of projects in different fields.

Chernyshenko commented that the idea is to boost investmnet in the Cuban economy, but in most needed areas like power generation, agriculture, public lighting, among others.
