Diaz-Canel stressed the importance of a Cuban delegation participating in the events for the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s Victory over fascism, at a time when attempts are being made to distort history.
The Cuban head of State also pointed out the coincidence of the celebrations with the 65th anniversary of restoring diplomatic relations between his nation and the former Soviet Union, which took place on May 8, 1960.
The president also explained that the visit began in St. Petersburg, where the Cuban delegation visited three important biotechnological development centers and held exchanges with the main authorities of the so-called capital of the Russian North.
Diaz-Canel highlighted the good state of relations with the Russian Federation at the political, economic, and commercial levels.
The Cuban president visited the Moskvich car factory and was received by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.
Later, Diaz-Canel and his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolas Maduro, laid a wreath before the equestrian statue of the “Libertador, Simon Bolivar”, in the square that bears his name in the Russian capital.
