Mexico reports 24,9% reduction in intentional homicides

Mexico City, May 8 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican government reported a 24,9% reduction in the incidence of intentional homicide between last September, one month before the beginning of the current administration, and April of this year.

The executive secretary of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa, specified that in the first month mentioned the monthly daily average of such crimes totaled 86,9, which fell to 65,3 in April, with consolidated figures. “This decrease means that this April 21 fewer homicides were registered daily than in September 2024”, the official, while also pointing out the fourth month of 2025 as the April with the lowest average since 2016, highlighted.

Regarding the annual behavior of the crime, in the first four-month period of this year, the average number of homicides per day at the national level was 73,1, a reduction of 27,3% compared to the same period of 2018.

Figueroa referred that from January to April 2025, seven entities concentrated 52,1% of the victims: Guanajuato, which accounted for 14,4% of total homicides, Baja California (7,0), State of Mexico (6,9), Chihuahua (6,7), Sinaloa (5,9), Jalisco (5,6) and Guerrero (5,6).

The administration is implementing a national security strategy based on four main lines of action: attention to the causes, consolidation of the National Guard, strengthening of intelligence, and the creation of a national police force.
