As reported by the Cuban Film Institute (Icaic for its Spanish acronym) in its social networks, this week, at the Titon Hall of the Institute’s headquarters, a screening of the restored film was held in the presence of its director.
Regarding the process, Icaic explained that 38 years after its production, unfortunately the copies of the Spanish versions of the film Capablanca that were kept in the institutional archives did not have the required quality for its restoration and preservation.
The reels, in excellent state of preservation, of this Cuban-Soviet co-production of 1987, were located in the State Fund of the Russian Federation Gosfilmofond in September 2024.
On that occasion, as a result of the renewal of the historical links between both film industries, undertaken by Icaic, around 70 Cuban productions were found.
The possibility of recovering a restored copy of the film Capablanca was the focus of much of the efforts that required joint work between Russia and Cuba for its restoration and digitization.
