According to a statement issued by the UAE Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, its Government does not acknowledge the Transitional Sovereign Council’s authorities based in Port Sudan, since it does not represent the legitimate Government of Sudan or its people.
The release also states that such an action is aimed at undermining its peace efforts and initiatives, and expresses its solidarity with the Sudanese people.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the attack on the strategic city of Port Sudan by the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which exposes civilians to even greater danger, as it is the main entry point for humanitarian aid in the African country.
The attacks on Port Sudan have also been condemned by Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Nations.
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in an internal war, following a power struggle between Army Chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF leader, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
