In recognition of the importance of the insertion of single mothers in the labor market, Congressman Roberto Cidade, president of the Legislative Assembly in the northern state of Amazonas, recently called attention to law number 6.817/2024, of his authorship, which created the Employment Incentive Program for Single Mothers.
The provision, already in force, aims to support the financial autonomy of women responsible for raising children, most of whom are black.
He pointed out that raising and educating a citizen is a difficult and complex task. And when done without help, it becomes even more difficult.
“Our law seeks to incentivize mothers to achieve financial independence by joining the labor market, so they can have a better quality of life and the means to financially support themselves and their children,” she referred.
Data from the National Association of Registrars of Natural Persons (Arpen-Brazil) show that, in 2023, 4,709 children in Manaus, capital of Amazonas, were born with only the mother’s name on their birth certificate, a reflection of the reality of single parents who face even greater challenges raising their offsprings alone.
