Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu stated that the document will be approved this May 13 alongside the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum.
The plan covers specific measures to collaborate in the scientific and technological innovation, economic and trade investment, finance, infrastructure, agri-food, industrial informatization, energy development, and joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Miao added that both sides will also adopt the Beijing Declaration, focused on demonstrating “the firm determination of China and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to pursue peace, development, and cooperation.”
Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver a speech during the opening of the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, a mechanism that celebrates 10 years since its official launch in this capital in 2015.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry reported that Foreign Minister Wang Yi will preside over this event on May 13, to which the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva; Colombia, Gustavo Petro; and Chile, Gabriel Boric; almost 20 foreign ministers and other high-level representatives of the region will attend.
The China-CELAC Ministerial Forum is taking place in the context of a tariff war unleashed by the United States and amid Washington’s pressure on nations of that region to restrict their trade with China.
