Mujica in poor health, Uruguayan president reports

Montevideo, May 11 (Prensa Latina) Former Uruguayan President José Mujica's health has worsened, President Yamandú Orsi informed in a meeting with the press.

The worsening of his condition prevents him from voting in the departmental and municipal elections to be held this Sunday in Uruguay.

Mujica usually votes among the first in his polling station in the Cerro municipality of Montevideo.

Today he remains by medical recommendation in his farm on the outskirts of this capital, where Orsi visited him on Saturday.

In January, the former president told the press that the esophageal cancer that had been detected in April 2024 had spread to his liver.

“I don’t stop it with anything. Why? Because I am an old man and because I have two chronic diseases. There is no room for biochemical treatment or surgery because my body can’t take it,” he told the weekly “Brecha” at the time.
