In an address to the country through social networks, the general secretary of the Sindicato Único Nacional de los Trabajadores de la Industria de la Construcción y Similares (Suntracs), Saúl Méndez, called all affiliates to dawn tomorrow, Monday, in support of the strike, despite the persecution and repressive actions of the police. A little dictator -he said in allusion to the country’s president, José Raúl Mulino- will not be able to subdue all the Panamanian people.
“Let us continue united, with firmness and discipline, until Law 462 is repealed”, he remarked.
The spokesman of the Pueblo Unido por la Vida alliance also denounced the arbitrariness and violations to union freedom committed by the current Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Jackeline Muñoz, and advocated her removal from office.
On the other hand, protest actions in several regions of the country continue, as in the western provinces of Veraguas, Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro, with road closures, as in Changuinola and an important strike of banana growers.
