The recent visit of Syrian transitional President Ahmad Al-Shara to the Kingdom of Bahrain and his meeting with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa paves the way for a new phase of political and economic cooperation, said the head of Syrian diplomacy, in a joint press conference with his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif Al-Zayani, in Manama.

He considered that what unites the two countries goes beyond political dimensions to fraternal ties and a joint Arab vision.

Damascus hopes to strengthen regional partnerships, particularly its relationship with Bahrain, and this bond will take on a practical dimension in investment and reconstruction issues, Al-Shaibani said.

The foreign minister reiterated his country’s rejection of any foreign interference in its affairs and called for the lifting of economic sanctions that he said hinder recovery efforts and directly impact Syrians’ livelihoods.
