Established in 1965, International Nurses Day honors the birth of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), who founded modern nursing.
Thanks to Nightingale, statistical and epidemiological methods were established in health services. Her model of patient care was aimed at preserving vital energy, using nature itself to achieve healing.
PAHO stresses in a press release that the Region of the Americas has approximately 7.4 million nursing professionals.
However, challenges persist related to inequity in the distribution and availability of these professionals and heterogeneity in education.
