Cuba Pavilion Inaugurated at Milan Triennial

Rome, May 12 (Prensa Latina) The Cuba Pavilion at the 24th International Exhibition of Milan Triennial was inaugurated in that Italian city, with an exhibition on Havana's Historical Center Project.

The exhibition, which will run until Nov. 9, was opened in a ceremony attended by Cuban Ambassador to Rome, Mirta Granda; the president of Milan Triennial, Stefano Boeri, and the director of the National Museum of Fine Arts of the Caribbean country, Jorge Fernandez.

In the opening it was highlighted that Havana, and particularly its vibrant historic center, declared a World Heritage Site in 1982, underwent an ambitious restoration process led by the Office of Havana City Historian under the direction of Eusebio Leal.

This project stands out as a unique example in the world of how it is possible to combine architectural restoration and social development through a process based on institutional, social, economic, cultural and environmental sustainability as its five strategic pillars.

In this way it was possible to safeguard not only the architectural and historical identity of Havana, but also the vitality of its resident population, maintaining the historic center as an authentic, inclusive and dynamic space, according to the organizers of this exhibition.

The exhibition also features five previously unpublished audiovisuals that tell the story of each of these pillars and take the public on a journey through sounds, images, textures and atmospheres that evoke Havana’s everyday life and widespread creativity.

This exhibition is also a tribute to Eusebio Leal, who passed away in July 2020 and dedicated a great part of his life to the preservation of the architectural and social heritage of the Cuban capital, particularly Old Havana, a work whose values are recognized worldwide, the promoters of this initiative emphasize.
