The company reported that its new responsive and adaptive braking system will be developed jointly with Chinese artificial intelligence company Streamax and surveillance solutions firm TNT Surveillance.
The system is designed to detect road hazards early and minimize the risk of injury to passengers during emergency braking.
It will also use radar sensors and cameras to monitor continuously the bus’s surroundings, detect hazards, and respond within 40 milliseconds to prevent accidents.
Automatic braking will be activated to ensure the bus maintains a safe distance. For example, if a car enters its lane or a pedestrian suddenly crosses in front of the vehicle.
Even if the bus is guaranteed to stop safely in such cases, the braking force would be gentler than a human driver’s sudden braking, SBS Transit said.
