Prathum Ruangrit, president of the Southern Teachers’ Federation, stated that the FTT wants the government to accelerate efforts to protect schools, teachers, and students in the three southern border provinces: Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.
“The unrest has left teachers and students in conflict-affected areas living in fear, as they are targets of attacks that threaten not only their lives and property, but also their mental well-being,” Prathum stated.
The FTT’s call underscores deep concern for the safety of education personnel in volatile areas of the conflict-ridden region, especially as schools prepare to reopen, the leader added.
The organization is calling for government intervention, including proactive protection policies for students and educators in high-risk areas and the deployment of security forces in schools.
The federation is also demanding emergency alert mechanisms in all schools and special budget allocations for teacher welfare, covering hazard pay, relocation options, and family compensation.
