Cumulative homicide rate in the Dominican Republic drops to 7,7

Santo Domingo, May 13 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican republic´s accumulative homicide rate dropped to 7,7 per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, compared to two weeks ago when it stood at 7,9, the Ministry of the Interior and Police reported.

The information was provided by the head of this ministry, Faride Raful, who highlighted that 24 provinces (out of a total of 31, plus the National District) have rates below single digits as a result of the work of the Joint Task Force.

Raful specified that among the districts with the fewest murders are Puerto Plata with 3,3, Sánchez Ramírez with 3,4, Dajabón with 3,7, and San José de Ocoa with 4,10.

She added that so far this year, the Hermanas Mirabal and Santiago Rodríguez provinces have not reported any victims from this scourge. The minister also reported that 8,170 Haitian citizens in an irregular situation were returned to their country in the first 11 days of this month by the General Directorate of Migration.
