Russia-Islamic World Forum Begins in Kazan

Moscow, May 13 (Prensa Latina) The 16th International Economic Forum "Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum" began its sessions today in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, TVBrics reported.

According to the report, more than 10,000 people from 100 nations are participating in some 200 different activities hosted by the Forum, which will run until May 16.

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his greetings to the event’s participants, noting that the forum will examine the prospects for strengthening ties between Russia and countries of the Islamic world in various areas.

Among the honored guests of the Kazan Forum are Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Zhamshid Khojaev, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Deputy Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, Ahmad Kavesa Sengendo, among others. The countries with the largest delegations are Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Nigeria, and Senegal.

Approximately 100 agreements are expected to be signed during the forum, ranging from investment projects to humanitarian initiatives.

The event’s main program includes more than 140 thematic sessions dedicated to Islamic finance, the development of multimodal transport corridors, the export of Russian halal products, culture, education, and other topics.

In particular, on May 14, participants will discuss tourism cooperation between Russia and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member countries, and on May 15, cooperation within the framework of the International Association of Special Economic Zones of the BRICS.

The main theme of the Kazan Forum is “Digitalization: New Reality and Opportunities for Enhanced Cooperation.” A plenary session will be dedicated to this topic on May 16.
