“Mujica was a man of integrity, a tireless fighter and an example of dignity and commitment to the poorest,” the Communist Party of Chile wrote in a message posted on its X account.
The organization added that his legacy of honesty, work and love for justice will be an example of inspiration.
Meanwhile, the Frente Amplio (FA) described him as an ethical and political reference in Latin America.
“His humble life, his sincere word and his tireless fight against inequality leave us an everlasting mark. From Uruguay, he sowed hope throughout the continent, demonstrating that another way of doing politics -more humane, more just- is possible,” added the FA.
Mujica, who was a guerrilla fighter, senator, deputy, and between 2010-2015, president of Uruguay , died the day before at the age of 89 as a result of cancer.
During his term, he worked tirelessly to expand social rights, promote inclusion and reduce poverty and inequality, as published on the Chilean Foreign Ministry’s website.
