This outrage constitutes not only a grave disrespect to the memory of Allende, but also an offense to history and to the democratic values he embodied and for which he gave his life, the text pointed out.

Last Monday, several individuals scratched pantheons in the cemetery, and even skidded on the graves and extracted a skull from one of the niches, which was self recorded in videos that the vandals disseminated.

“We demand that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation to identify those responsible for these acts of vandalism and that the corresponding sanctions be applied with the full strength of the law,” the PS expresses.

The organization warned that hatred and ignorance cannot be allowed to stain the memory of those who represent national history and dignity.

Salvador Allende is and will continue to be a symbol of consequence, social commitment and struggle for a fairer Chile. Neither offense nor disrespect will tarnish his legacy, the PS affirmed.
